Hello All!
I trust that you have survived the winter months and are ready for our 51st Season of the PEORIA AREA SENIOR CITIZENS BAND,
“Beginning our 2nd 50 years”. I had my right knee replaced
in mid-October and my left knee replaced in mid-January. My recovery has been excellent on both because of the therapy involved. I’m planning on directing the Rehearsal on April 1 with no problem. This note is a little lengthy so bear with me.

~First of all, I’d like to continue contacting you via e-mail. I feel this worked out very well last year. We still will utilize our Internet Webpage for communications also (do a Google Search for “Peoria Senior Band”). The Schedule is posted, and a run-down of the selections for the upcoming Concerts will be posted on this site as well. Please also remember that you can Text me at 309-696-3115. PLEASE BE SURE TO INCLUDE YOUR NAME ON ANY TEXT THAT YOU SEND.

~We are going to do something different this year with regards to music. I have made each of you your own individual folder including INSTRUMENT, PART, AND NAME. I AM NO LONGER GOING TO CARRY THE MUSIC IN THE 3 BINS THAT WE HAVE USED IN THE PAST. YOU ARE GOING TO BE RESPONSIBLE FOR GETTING YOUR FOLDER TO AND FROM EACH CONCERT. I know that there are times when you switch parts, and that is fine. Just swap folders for that Concert and then swap them back at the end of the Concert. We should have enough folders for each part so that, if someone misses a Concert, we still have the parts covered. Maybe talk amongst your section and, if someone is going to miss the next Concert, have someone else take that folder. My knees aren’t to the point where I can bend over the bumper
of my vehicle and pull out the music bins. I could most likely use some help getting the music out of vehicle at the Rehearsal. I think we can accomplish this music handling with a minimum of effort.

~Barb Hutchins has graciously agreed to continue her role in setting up chairs for the Band. She and I will communicate with the absences for a particular concert. IT IS EXTREMELY IMPORTANT THAT YOU TEXT OR EMAIL ME IF YOU ARE NOT GOING TO BE AT A PARTICULAR CONCERT. You can Text me at 309-696-3115 (PLEASE REMEMBER TO INCLUDE YOUR NAME), or email me at
mathewsm@speednet.com  if you know that you will be absent for a particular Concert or the Rehearsal, and I will forward the absentees to Barb to make adjustments to the set-up. PLEASE DO NOT ENTER THE SET-UP UNTIL BARB GIVES THE OK IN ORDER TO MAKE HER JOB EASIER. This is a great service that she provides and is very much
appreciated.

~Also, remember that we are changing UNIFORMS this summer. We will be wearing the POWDER BLUE SENIOR BAND POLO SHIRTS, KHAKI PANTS, AND COMFORTABLE SHOES  (PLEASE NO FLIP FLOPS). I think that this will give the Band more of a “Summer Appearance”. If you need a shirt please let me know and I will order you one at no charge to you. You can text me at 309-696-3115, or email
me at
mathewsm@speednet.com. I also still have some 50th Anniversary Pins if you need one.

~Our first and only Rehearsal is scheduled for MONDAY, APRIL 1, 2019, at the Kidder Music Rehearsal Complex directly behind Kidder Music on Crestline Drive off of Pioneer Parkway in Peoria (turn onto Crestline at the Sherwin Williams Paint Store). Doors will open at 9:00 a.m. and the Rehearsal will begin at 9:30 a.m. We will finish by 11:30 a.m. We have some new tunes to rehearse plus some tunes that we use that have some “rough spots” that we need to polish up. I will have a
line-up for you as always.

~Judy Ernst will no longer be booking our Concerts for us. She has her hands full with her Accordion dealings. My wife, Lou Ann, has assumed that responsibility, and so far has 27 Concerts booked for us. There are several facilities that have not gotten back to her, several that are doing extensive renovating that can’t accommodate us this year, and a couple that do not even have an Activities Director. April is busier than usual because of National Nursing Home Month celebrations. I have attached a partial Schedule to this document. It’s
going to be a busy time early in our season.

I am looking forward to once again serving as Director of this fine musical organization. It is a pleasure to work with all of you. I have heard the Band grow musically the past several years and know that this will continue. I will do my part to make this happen. It’s probably time for you to get out your instruments and make sure that they are in good playing condition. I’m sure that you don’t want a surprise at the Rehearsal and find out that your instrument isn’t working up to its potential. So please take a little time to check it out.

I’ll plan on seeing you at the Rehearsal on April 1st, and remember to bring a music stand.

Thank you!
Mike
